Background:

It's unsure who or what created Aethel, but legends say when she was first created, she was displeased with all the dirtiness and lack of trees and so she used her powers to begin to grow trees where she saw fit. However, this attracted of the attention of the ancient Germanic Tribes over time.

They either prayed to Aethel or cursed her name and deliberately began to destroy the Earth out of spite.

Angered, she went down to Earth as a large black cat and eviscerated those who defied her will. And while she cleansed the evil, it did scare the other folks.

Over the millenniums, she tired to be a better deity, but if there is people destroying the Earth, she will punish them.
